If you want to contribute to mami’s f’ing expensive ass burgers.
Went on a drive through Gold Country to get some of the last remaining peaches of the season. And since we had made the long drive, might as well make a stop at the infamous Ikeda’s.
Ikeda’s is still family-owned and operated. Sam Ikeda was an orchard farmer in Auburn, California that decided to cut out the middle man between the producer and the seller. That idea came to fruition in the 1950s when Sam’s partner, Everett Gibson, retired and left Sam a humble roadside fruit stand. Here Sam could sell his own produce from the family’s 40-acre farm a mile down the road. This modest roadside stand turned into what we now know as the grocery store fused with an eatery, collectively known as Ikeda’s, with Sam’s sons Glen and Steve Ikeda at the helm. Glen’s son, Derek Ikeda manages the social media. Derek states, “The Ikeda’s in Auburn had become such a huge success that they chose to create another Ikeda’s market in Davis, California.”
The Auburn eatery sells burgers, fries, killer shakes and a delicious Dungeness crab sandwich. Today, Ikeda’s is known for their homemade pies; peach, apple, pecan, pumpkin, marionberry, mixed berry, etc. Need a pie for Thanksgiving? Reserve a pie from Ikeda’s.
The Auburn location was poppin’ when we got there. We called in our orders for pickup, which is how things are running during Covid. I couldn’t justify paying $25 for the amount of frozen lump meat in the Dungeness Crab in the sandwich. They gave us a 20 minute waiting time. I went to pick the food up only after 15 minutes and it was ready. By the time I walked it across the parking lot, it was already cold. The pickles were limp and had no snap. No mayo, mustard, or sauce to be found.
It never had a fair chance at being given a just review from Mami because, homie don’t play that. Mami took one bite and was totally turned off.
Mami’s Rating, “Aye, que horrible!”
Tried their pie a few years ago after apple-picking up in that neck of the woods!
I live for Mami’s one-liner burger put-downs!!
