🎢 I rode the rollercoaster with you in this piece - was still savoring nibbling my nibbles with Mami and cats by the fire when the cops made an abrupt appearance - didn’t have time to digest! At the end I was left thinking about how we consume/digest our environments along with our snacks and meals - for better or worse. Outside in, inside out.
Looking forward to trying this recipe! We’re already a fan of using your adobo and sazòn on just about every piece of chicken we eat now, so this will be a good way to mix it up.
Like the others, I was riding your rollercoaster! Thinking about that warm fire with the kitties as “toasty loaves”! Love that! I hope you’re able to eventually put that latest episode of over-reactive cops into the past. I’m also glad you and Mami weren’t hit too hard by all the storms.
Thank you for the link on how to cut citrus! Absolutely brilliant. No idea why they don’t show this everywhere. I’ve learned something new for today! Thank you for another wonderful post!
WOO your stories have me using the dictionary! Love it :) I've never had lemon pepper wings but your recipe makes me want to try it, especially because I love using your adobo to season chicken. The comment about covering the raw chicken with spices for the picture cracked me up. Your writing makes me feel all the feels! Thanks for sharing your gift.
i agree with daphne, i was on the rollercoaster too and i loved it. i got lost in your morning routine at mami's, feeling cozy. and then the police, and just reading it brought up anxiety from my own past experiences, and i don't even share a fraction of your trauma in that respect. suffice it to say, another wonderful and evocative piece of writing.
in other news, thank you for teaching people how to choose limes and cut citrus. i hope people don't miss that tidbit because it's so important! i forget where i learned but i've been doing that for years and it makes all the difference. no juicer required. and with lemons it means all the seeds are in that middle bit. smooth fat round limes, esp if they're a bit lighter in color are where it's at. those dark green lumpy ones that look "perfect" bc they look like how a lime would be drawn in a children's book are about as good as green rocks.
as for instagram, i suspect it's a combination. i wish years ago IG would have let us have a category/filter system for our friend list, because i see so few people in my timeline ever since The Algorithm, but i also don't have room in my brain for thousands of IG handles...so all the time i'm like "oh! whatever happened to that person i followed who did [x]" but i can't remember their name so i can basically never find them again. i would have loved to sort folx into categories like cooking, crafting, news, friends, art etc. so i could find the people i want to keep up with when they don't show up in my feed organically. while you aren't in that group, i know there have to be several (if not tons) of other creators who i would have financially supported but they just fell off my radar and i have no way of finding them again.
plus, i think a lot of people just aren't using social media like they used to. i was discussing this with friends as an old club recently re-opened here after decades of closure and i'm like...how do you even work as an event promoter anymore? how do you reach people? i truly have no idea. it must be maddening.
I love your writing. I wish I knew the answer to the book sales Q. I'm a visual artist, so wonder myself on how to...get in there, sales wise? Not sure how to phrase my feelings/thoughts. Thanks for this post.
Love your writing, as always! Surrounding you with my Aloha as I read this, dear one!
